Google seems to be slowly and surely taking over the world, so what should we expect from the gang in 2012?

Tablet

It looks like we should certainly be looking towards a Google tablet in the next year. Certain communications have said we should expect a high quality tablet something possibly along similar lines to the company’s Nexus brand of phones. This would possibly all come into line with Android 4.0 and mean something more exciting than the current Motorola Xoom, or Samsung Tablet. Perfect for mobile slots. 

Chromebooks

Expect the coming of Cloud based computing in 2012. We should see the popularity of the company’s Chromebooks rapidly increase in the coming year. This should see faster loading times, cloud based software and a whole change in the way we interact with computers – once you have an Internet connection that is.

Google + Page Admin

We’ll see third party developers get to grips with Google + pages this year allowing them to do unique things Facebook cant. We’ll see things such as tighter integration of Google Apps, large Hangouts and a number of other innovations that may catapult Google+ into the mainstream.

Android

We’ll see Android not only become the majority OS for phones, but notably so. Expect to see 60 per cent of all smart phones sold to be of the Android variety. This will mean a more robust Android until Amazon releases a phone on Android, with no Google services that is.

Google TV

Expect to see a number of affordable Google TVs on sale and more market penetration. We’re predicting €99 for the Google boxes when they eventually arrive. These may see uniue content through apps and the fact Google owns YouTube garners some advantage.

More than 155,000 people signed a petition looking for Apple to do more about the state of its Chinese workers employment condions and are calling for ‘ethical# iPhones.

Change.org has began the campaign following reports of poor working conditions in factories in China. There have been over 43,000 signatures stating that the iPhone 5 should be made ethically.

Apple has acknowledged the demands and said that it cared about every worker in its supply chain. Calls have been made for the world famous company to ‘release a worker protection strategy for new product releases’, claiming that the injuries in these areas increase when staff have more to do and are under more pressure.

Change.org has also requested that the results from the Fair Labor Association’s reports should be published, allowing all identified violations to be made clear.

The petitions come after a scathing New York Times article into the conditions at the Chinese plants. The paper report claimed that Apple would only have to ask for changes to be made before they were brought about such is its power.

Problems with Apple’s overseas working conditions became common talk about two years ago after a number of workers who aided production of components for Apple phones were injured after being subjected to a poison gas.

As well as this, four workers were killed in two separate explosions last year, as well as reports that 18 workers have tried to commit suicide in the Foxconn plant where Apple goods are made.

Apple tends to get the most press due to the profits it makes and though it has got alot of negative feedback, it hasn’t stopped workers applying for jobs at its overseas plants. Recent reports in China show that a recruitment drive by Foxconn for an additional 100,000 workers say long queues of young job seekers queue outside its plants.

Though Kodak went bankrupt during the week, things aren’t all bad for pioneers in the field of technology.

Nokia has seen estimates suggest it sold 1.3m Lumia Phones since their release in the last quarter of 2011. This figure was gotten by Bloomberg, who compared a 23 experts and analysts’ predictions and averaged them.

With estimates ranging from between 800,000 to 2m units sold, the Lumia has been the Finnish company’s best performer for a long time. However, considering the phones have pushed over the million mark in the space of slightly over two months release and Nokia will probably be quite happy.

Such a move would put Nokia back to the fore of the mobile phone field, but make investors in both Windows 7 and Nokia, less anxious. Of course the Nokia Lumia and its 3.7 inch screen make a great companion for mobile slots.

Kodak, on the other hand has had to file for bankruptcy, after months and months of speculation. The company, which invented the digital camera, is filed for Bankruptcy protection having failed to sell its patents, valued at $2Billion.

You may have noticed that during trying to research something today, that Wikipedia is out of action.

In case you didn’t realise, there is method to the madness. The world’s largest encyclopaedia is in out for the 18th of January in response to the proposed changes to copyright because of the SOPA and PIPA Bills in the US.

Google, the world’s largest search engine has also got in on the act and a ‘End Piracy, Not Liberty’ is visible on the site as a mark of protest.

The likes of Google, Wikipedia and a smorgasbord of others including Facebook believe that the legislation will damage the web and have severe consequences for the way information is available.

Wikipedia, which receives over 25m hits a day has called the legislation’ destructive’. Their blackout prevents users from getting to grips with any of its 3.8m articles and are encouraging people to protest against the legislation.

The problem has dragged a number of high profile personalities into the mix, with Rupert Murdoch having his say against Wikipedia and some even in the field questioning the information catalogue’s stance. Twitter has claimed that there is little point in closing down a multi million pound business just to protest against a national legislation.

The largest fear from Google, Yahoo, Facebook and Zynga, among other silicon valley heavy weights, is that this will damage innovation. This won’t stop iPhone casino games users from enjoying a bout of mobile roulette, or other games – possibly fill in some time dedicated for Wikipedia?

Samsung has unveiled a smart TV at CES 2012 that allows hardware to be upgraded every year, so making it ‘future proof’ These sets will receive add on, slot in parts each year that will ensure those who fork out on a TV won’t find themselves with an out of date set after a couple of quarters.

Of course Samsung will need to offer enough of an upgrade to make people want to buy a chip in the first place, though this remains to be seen. We do wonder whether Samsung will require an upgrade every year, or whether it will be possible to skip upgrades.

Samsung also revealed a 55 inch OLED TV at CES, as well as more 3D content for its TVs, a new Ultrabook and a number of other innovations in the smart phone arena – many of which allow for mobile roulette and other gaming choices. 

Smart Phones

There are a number of advances that will transform smart phones in 2012 and our Internet and gaming experiences. One thing is sure, the phone you have in your pocket now will look obsolete by 2014. So, what are the changes and how will they affect mobile gaming?

Displays

Expect far higher resolutions than at present. Currently Toshiba has a 4inch 367ppi display in the mix, which is set to possibly come to the iPhone 5 in 2012. Alongside this, new battery friendly displays will mean charging your phone daily, or more, will be a thing of the past. Finally, flexible displays will change things substantially and mean controlling games will mean twisting your phone’s screen – something exciting for the likes of iPhone casino games and mobile roulette among others.

Edgeless displays

We expect to see little slimming of chassis sizes, down from those of the current stick. Though, we do expect to see more added to the items and also bezel free phones.

Chips

Expect a 2.5GHz quad core chip for early next year and 100 times better performance than Tegra 2 chips by 2014.

Santa’s Big Helper

This app creates a video of Santa in your home and allows you to show your children Chris Kindle in night footage in your home. You can also create letters, a naughty and nice list and ;an ask the elf’ section, where you ask a fully grown man in an elf suit questions.

Tapshot

With all the camera apps on the market at the moment, TapShot allows you to design your own. You can add and customise the features you want and how they operate. This all creates a fun option, though there is some shutter lag.

GTA III

Finally and most importantly, Grand Theft Auto III is considered one of the most influential games of all time and is available on both iOS and Android.

2011 has been a great year for mobile phones. Samsung’s Galaxy came out at the start of the year and set the Android phone world alight. The device is a dual core with Android 2.3 and of course the wonderful Super AMOLED Plus screen, which is part of the reason it’s so great. Add to this an 8mp camera and a nice user interface and you have a phone that is probably the best of the year.

For most of us Christmas offers us fine food, friends, family and of course time for gaming. Fortunately those wishing to engage in a spot of mobile gaming are inundated with choice this Yuletide and will have to make a decision quite promptly as the season approaches. Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo has for a long time been the king of the consoles and the best selling ever has been the 3DS. This mobile console offers glass free 3D to those who want the best of Mario in three dimensions. It’s a spectacular achievement and one Nintendo have done well with. For the technology involved the console is quite low in price, but certainly offers an impressive catalogue as it’s backwards compatible with previous Nintendo software as well as having a number of excellent 3D titles.

Blaze Sega

This handheld has all the old favourites from the mid 90s. From Sonic the Hedgehog to Streets of Rage, to Alex the Kidd, this handheld has them all. The shape of the device is reminiscent of the Megadrive and the LCD screen offers fluid game play which shows how much technology has come on. Considering this is the size of about two gaming cartridges of yesteryear and about half the price, it’s a great gift.

PSP Go

The little PSP replacement is a neat and tidy device that offers a wide catalogue of games and also looks fantastic. It’s a well built reliable device which has come down in price in recent times and offers gamers a quite good mobile prospect. It also includes a number of free downloadable games.

PS Vita

Though not out until the 22nd of February. The Sony PS Vita looks set to trump most others in power terms. The touch screen device replaces the PSP and certainly looks like a console that can really impress. With its dual camera, GPS and touch sensitive back it offers a range of impressive gaming options and may herald the new era of mobile gaming.

This cocktail app gives you a list of ingredients and detailed how to guide into making your Christmas drinks. So whether it’s a taste of the sunshine or something more Christmas like, this app gives you the advice you require.

Food52 is an iPad app which offers a serious guide to those looking for a solution to their Christmas food worries. The app has over 75 different recipes and video tutorials, ensuring you create the ultimate in food.

Nigella Lawson

If it’s the queen of sultry food you’re after, then Nigella’s app takes the shortbread biscuit. It has a wide number of recipes, is laid out beautifully and offers the style and sophistication the lady herself is known for. Doesn’t teach you how to lick your fingers in the same fashion though.
